Marilia Gurgel is a multimedia artist whose work centers on visual storytelling. Born in Mossoró, in northeastern Brazil, she holds a degree in Performing Arts and a BA in Theater Direction from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. In 2022, she completed the Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism program at the International Center of Photography in New York.
From 2014 onwards, she started to work in the Brazilian film industry, she has been in several audiovisual productions for cinema, advertising and TV, including works for channels such as BBC UK, HBO Brazil and Netflix Brazil. Since 2022, she has dedicated herself to communications for humanitarian aid, working as a multimedia producer and field communications manager.
Marilia is the director of the music video "Bagana" by Biltre, the dance film "Malandro" featuring Laryssa França, and the short film "Saudades", which was awarded the Poti-Cultural Sesc-RN 2021 grant. She is also a recipient of the En Foco 2023 Media Arts Works in Progress grant for her project "Let Me Tell You About Them".
